Boyle River Camp.
Kia ora,
Last week on Tuesday we were sent on camp, just the year 10's . It was all of Tieke and half of Riroriro. We went to a place called Boyle River Outdoor Education Center, also known as BROEC. When we finally got to Boyle River, after the 3 hour bus ride we went to the cabins and dropped our bags off, and while we were in there we chose where we wanted to sleep,.2 of the bunks were 3 high, that doesn't sound tall but trust me, it is. When we were finished we got to see what the groups were in and who our camp instructor will be. I got an awesome instructor who was called Devin. He grew up in America and moved to New Zealand 6 years ago. We did a couple of group activities and they were pretty fun.
But when it came around 6 oclock at night, we had dinner. The dinner was mac n cheese. then we did a group activity called nightline. We were in the woods with a rope we had to hold, and we had to be blindfolded and in a pair with another person. I was with Aryan. The activity was kind of hard but we did it, then when we went to sleep and woke up in the morning. We had weetbix, milo, and other cereals, then we got on out with our group (group 5) and went with Devan. We did a couple of activities and they were pretty fun where we had to put planks on wood and walk across it without the wood breaking. Then dinner that night we had fried rice and also a milo.
After dinner we went out again with a group of people. Some people (15 of them) did a thing where they sit in the woods for an hour by yourself and wait for people to come back, . didn't do it though, everyone that came back said they went to sleep or were seeing scary things. When we finished all of that we got back to the lodge and went to sleep again.
In the morning it was the same stuff, weetbix and other cereals, plus a milo on the side. That day we went to the swamp and did the same thing, the planks on the wood, but this time it was scarier because it was over water. It took around 20 minutes to get everyone across with only 3 planks of wood. and at the end of the day we went on a long walk, it was like 2 hours, and did a thing where we had to cross 2 wires harnessed onto it so you don't fall into the river, one wire under your feet and wire above you so you can hold on when going across.
Then when we got to our destination we had a huge fire, like 2 square meters wide. we made rice on some cookers and boiled water, they also brought nachos and vegeterian sauce, we also has marshmallows and went to go find some sticks. When we found our sticks we put them above the fire to heat them up a little bit and make it so they weren't completely wet, for the next 20 minutes we were putting the marshmallows on the fire. When we were finally done we went all the way back to the lodge and had a massive sleep.
In the morning when we woke up we did a thing called the amazing race. It consisted of everything we did in the 3 days, we did a thing where we needed to have someone in a harness and people pulling on them from the other side, there was a pole above them and the rope went over it. The person in the harness needed to stack the crates and stand on them for the points to count,we got 537 and some of the other groups only just got up to 200-300.
At the very end when we were just about to leave the people came up and said we won the challenge, we got the most points out of every group, and there were 5 groups. we thanked all of the people and got back on the bus, then we were back at school and went home.

The great pacific garbage patch
Reading & Reflection
Hello, the past 2 weeks we have been reading in wananga, I read Gangsta Granny by David Walliams. It's about a little boy and his grandma, he doesnt like going to her house on friday because she smells like cabbage and only likes playing scrabble, one day over the phone to his parents he said she is boring and smells like cabbage.
Granny heard him say that and so she changed, she bought fake jewels to make Ben think she was a gangsta, then she was going to pretend to steal the Queen's crown jewels, but Ben insisted he wanted to go, to the point that she couldn't say no, then Ben made a good plan to steal the crown jewels, by going through a sewage pipe into the Queens house. When they went through with that plan, they went into the sewage pipes and when in there, they had successfully got to the crown jewels then the Queen showed up, they wouldve got in alot of trouble, but luckily the Queen pardoned them and let them go.

Environment issues
Environment Issues
Over the past few weeks we have been learning about the earth and environments. Lately around the world there have been a lot of environment and ocean issues, including water pollution, litter, the extinction of animals, or even just endangered animals being killed. Or even Just volcanic eruptions going into the ocean killing turtles and fish.
Over the few weeks we have been learning about this, I have learned that if we do not stop littering and actually start cleaning the ocean, in 30 years the ocean will be 50% fish and 50% plastic. i have also learned that at a beach. also about Phytoplankton, Phytoplankton is a micro organism that consumed carbon dioxide and makes 4 times more oxygen than the amazon rain forest. in a movie called Seaspiracy there are a lot of dead whales found on a beach, and most of the whales had plastic bags inside them, but one of them had 30 inside it.

DTE Reflection Blog Post
DTE Reflection Blog Post
For the past few weeks we have been making a slide show about Encryption methods & Techniques, there are many ways to encrypt or decrypt a message. I've made a slideshow on how to decrypt a message and the methods you can use, the first three are easy, second 3 are medium and the last 3 are the hard ones to learn. There is also a website called discover crypt, this is the website I've been using to learn about all of these methods. Discover Crypt
Easy: Pig Pen, Caesar Cypher, Simple Transposition.
Medium: Rail Fence, Atbash Cipher, Polybius Square Cipher
Hard: Columnar Transposition, Viginere Cipher, Bifid Cipher.
Ive added a description and a photo of the table you use to decrypt/encrypt messages.

A Couple of weeks ago in social studies we were learning about Woodstock and the Vietnam war. for one of the tasks we had to listen to a song about anti-war/peace the song I chose was "Give Peace A Chance" by John Lennon. it just repeats "give peace a chance" over and over again non stop. the song is basically saying to give peace a chance and stop the wars with Vietnamese.

DTE - Cryptography
Hello, for the past couple of weeks in DTE we have been learning about cryptography and how to encrypt things, and decode them. I have made an infographic poster about it and what is is about, I have made 6 parts about it and how it works. we needed to watch a video and get things from it to put it on a poster. Heres the screenshot of the poster that I made for it.

ANZAC
Hello, in social studies this week we have been learning about Anzac and what it is, it was on April 25 where Australia and New Zealand made an alliance to capture the Gallipoli peninsula. I have been making a map for it. where the fights were, and what it was about, ANZAC stands (Australia New Zealand Army Corps). I've made a map about where it was, and where the mines were in the water. Here is the map that I made. (Map). The red on the map was ANZAC and the green was the British.
The song comes on at April 21 every year, it is for remembrance for the soldiers that lost their life fighting on those days. it is played as a final farewell at military funerals and commemorative services. the song represents our 2 country's. The Last Post

Atomic Science: Periodic Table
What does the periodic table show us? it shows us what the elements are and how many electrons, neutrons and protons have. it explains how much matter is inside of them, says how many protons, electrons, neutrons. it shows how many shells it has and shows the position on the periodic table. Alkali metals have 1 electron in the outer shell. they need to get rid of it so they can react. atoms are made up of 3 things, electrons, protons, neutrons. the electron it on the outside while the proton and neutron are in the middle. the centre of the atom is called a nucleus. every element has at least one atom in it. the number at the top of the element shows how many electrons there are, and at the bottom is the neutrons and protons.
We did an experiment where you put water and universal indicator in, then miss put lithium in first, it just smoked and spun around in circles, but then she did a bigger chunk and it made it spin way faster and smoke more. then after a while she put in sodium, the small piece smoked ALOT. then she got a bigger piece and put it in, and eventually it caught on fire and exploded, all the little bits that were caught on fire went all over the tables.

Music through time
Spirituals were songs used to help slaves out of slave states, or just a way to talk to them in hidden messages. they would say something about wade in the water, which means they would use the water/ocean to get out of the slave state. ore they would say something about a railroad and they would use underground railroads. there were no trains, but they called them railroads as a code word. spirituals would lift up the slaves, give them hope. they would be used in weddings and churches if allowed.
Harriet Tubman was a woman who escaped slavery and helped hundreds of slaves escape slavery, she then lead them through an underground railroad that took them to freedom. she used underground railroads. the water so the dogs couldn't smell their scent and hunt them down. Harriet Tubman was five when she god first put to work. she was serving as a housemaid and later on as a field hand, a cooker, and a wood worker. when she was 12 she refused to help punish an enslaved woman, and she suffered a severe head injury after a male threw an iron weight at her head.
Here are lyrics to one of the spirituals and the hidden meaning behind it.
Chorus: Wade in the Water, wade in
the water children.
Wade in the Water. God’s gonna trouble the water.
Who are those children all dressed in Red?
God’s gonna trouble the water.
Must be the ones that Moses led.
God’s gonna trouble the water.
Chorus
Who are those children all dressed in White?
God’s gonna trouble the water.
Must be the ones of the Israelites.
God’s gonna trouble the water.
Chorus
Who are those children all dressed in Blue?
God’s gonna trouble the water.
Must be the ones that made it through.
God’s gonna trouble the water.
The Hidden meaning to this is that she would use the water to get people out of slavery places. therefore the dogs cant smell their scent and hunt them down because they aren't on land.

Unwind book.
Hello, today in English we had to guess what a book will be about, here is my hypotheses.
How do you think this story will be written? I feel like it is a futuristic movie where it has been taken over by the government and have to do everything that they are told. I feel like the world will fall apart and that it. I think there will be a huge disaster that wipes out the entire earth, and 2 people are left to survive.because
the whole earth will unwind and become a 2 person survival.
Where do you think the story will take place? on a deserted island. a big island not a small one. the island has barely any trees, only fish around it, no land animals and only 2 people to survive and make it back to a Utopian. i think the story will be set in the year 3000 or up. when everything is perfect. but there is 1 island that is not Utopian.

Cyber Safety
Cyber safety is a key part about the internet and what happens on the internet. the web has a lot of hacker groups and you should be cautious on what you do. do not click suspicious links and make your password as secure as you can "uys87df6UFHG__" for example, it is a hard password for hackers to crack and get into your account. Here are 2 posters I made about cyber safety, what is is and how to keep safe
