Year 8 Reflection

Hello, my name is Josh. Today we need to do a reflection of what we have done this year. I liked Going to Orana Park and Jellie Park this year. I am proud of my reading status, I went from level A to level F. And in my vocabulary, I went from level A to level H. Also at the start of the year I had read 0 words, now I have read 80,465 words. I have improved from the last year as well.

Playing To Win Book Review

As you know on my blog I have been doing a novel study, my teacher gives me questions and tasks I need to do, this is the last one I need to do, this is a book review for "Playing To Win"

Review -  this book is recommended to anybody who likes rugby and action books, there is a drag race, a car crash, and Todd cut Denny's brakes so he chased him down. There are a lot of great parts to this book and plus it is super interesting.

Summer Learning Journey

Kia Ora Emma. My name is Josh I go to Hornby High School like learning math and spelling at school. I am looking forward to doing the fun tasks I hope there are tasks that you can make things not just blogging that would be fun. The "All The World's A stage"Arts & entertainment, I am looking forward I hope that I can win one, I would like to win the speaker if I won at all, what I like doing about the Summer Learning Journey is like what I did a few years ago, making cool things then putting them on my blog.

In conclusion I like the Summer Learning Journey because the tasks are fun, I might not do the summer learning journey because I don't like blogging.. but I might, I'm not sure just yet.

Denny / Alice Conflict

Denny and Alice have been having conflict/ Conflict means that there may be differences as in like He might say that rugby is cool and she says different, that could be the cause of conflict

Her brother died in a car crash and he was drunk, at the time he was at a rugby celebration that is why she doesn't like rugby.

There also may be more but that hasn't been told on the book.

Responsibilities

 Denny has responsibilities in his life; he helps his mum with finances, he takes care of his sisters and is a part of a team.

What responsibilities do you have in your life? how do you manage them and making sure you are completing what you are trusted to do.

Making my bed, making sure that i'm ready in the morning for a school day, sometimes putting my dog in his kennel, not being late to school, Putting My P.E Uniform into my bag, At school making sure that i'm getting changed for PE, Hurumanu and Sport, making sure i'm not late to my classes, when we line up i need to make sure I have my Chromebook out and I am in line, making sure in on the right sites that in meant to be on.

In this story I got stuck in s room, there is fire all around me, I try to smash the door down, I failed so just stopped, it's hard to breathe, I found an axe so I destroyed the door, I got out and found out that in on an abandoned and deserted island, I was looking around for people but I found nobody so I was walking around, I walked around the whole island, as soon as I saw a sign, it said, take this shovel and find the treasure, “is this a joke,” I said.

The sign changes and said Maybe, what does this mean. I found a x in the ground. I think the shovel is meant to dig that up. Heard a bang, I think hit something metal, if that was the case it may be god bard, that was not the case, it was an old pot, did it have money in it? No clue… To Be Continued

Fish Out Of Water, Playing To Win

One time I felt like a fish out of water when I moved from Australia to New Zealand. I was nervous hopping on the plane because I had only ever been on a plane once, this was when I was around 7 or 8 years old. When I started my school I was at South Hornby, it was frightening because it was a new school, I was only a year 3 then so I didn't know much about the school, the school went from year 1 to year 6.  It was when I was year 4 that I got used to the school, but in year three I hated school, new school, new rules to the school, Australia was nice and hot, New Zealand was cold and rainy. I hated new Zealand, now that I am year 8 I have gotten used to new Zealand's weather, the past week it has been really hot and it reminded me of Australia because it was so hot.

That was a time where I felt like a fish out of water, going to a new country and a new school.

Playing To Win

There is tension between Todd and Denny because of they both like Alice, but she doesn't like Todd. He told Alice a story that made Alice laugh and made Denny jealous.
They also may have some tension because Denny parked in Todd's parking space which made Todd furious at Denny and wanted a race, Denny also won that so Todd was embarrassed. I think Todd has an anger issue because everything that Denny does todd gets angry at him.

CIP Kindness poster

Today we had CIP, in this CIP this week I have made a kindness poster with Levi, Callum, and Jayden. It looks like it had scales with a Circle in the middle that will say "Have Courage & Be Kind to Others.

We are making this to be the best of our ability so it can be up and around the school and on our principal's blog. Hopefully, if people can put them around the school or on the Principal's blog it will persuade people to be kind.

I have done the scales, Callum did the out lines and the circle in the middle and Levi is writing the words that say "Have Courage & Be Kind To Others, then Jayden is going to do the outline of the scales with vivid

Digital Tech

Hello, my name is Josh.

I chose homelessness because it is a really big problem in the world. people go homeless every day because either they don't have a job or they just can't afford a house, people Get a styrofoam cup and they make a sign saying "I'm homeless please donate to a homeless shelter" or  "please donate to me I need money I'm homeless". 

What went well for me is that there were coins in the game and the guy was homeless so he needed to collect them and get enough money to buy a job so he could get lots more money for a house, and there was a secret place noone could find where you could finda lottery ticket to get 1B dollars to do whatever you wanted with.

What I would do next time is make a different game about a different problem like saving the oceans from pollution. I would get a free pack from the market place where there is rubbish and fish and the fish were eating all the rubbish and there was a scuba diver where he needed to fill a bag he had with rubbish to be able to leave the oceans so all the fish will be saved. Either way I still enjoyed what I made.

Playing To Win -- Reading

For my novel study, I have been reading a book called playing to win.

The main character in the storys name is Denny, He moved to a new place, He went to school, enrolled for it, got a ford escort, got a job at a video store for money to make his 2 seven year old sisters, He is a rugby player. the first day he had at school there was a person called Todd, Todd constantly bullied Denny, Then after school Todd wanted to race, as the lights turned green they took off, Todd car stalled and Denny won, How humiliating.

Denny picks up his sisters and took them to ther park, He played rugby with them, then next time Denny saw Todd he shoved Denny so Denny put a crab on him and it kept nipping him.

Te Reo Maori

Te Reo Maori, Hello my name is josh yesterday we done work about Atua Maori, There were 2 gods that were connected, he tried to push them off by putting his back on the female god and his feet on the male god, they won't let go so he asked for the sacred axes and it got given to him he cut their arms off and they went their seperate ways, The Other gods lived Better and happily.

Then there was another one, Someone had a wife, He hit her when he got mad and she then left him for her tribe, He went to go find her it took multiple days but finally he was there. He Asked for truce and to have her bach, she gave him one last chance, they then lived happily.

Soccer PE

This and last term for PE Hurumanu my group did Football/Soccer my lesson was successful because my team had really cooperative and had amazing team work. My role was to be a referee and also putting all the equipment out on the court, I would like to do Tchouckball because another team did it and it was really fun. With Tchoukball or hockey because the rules of the 2 games are easy, but for soccer it was really hard to get people to concentrate because people were playing around a lot.

What I learnt is that when you are in goal wear gloves and be strong because people Knuckle Ball it, Knuckle ball means they kick it so hard that your hand will pull back really far because you can get proper control of the ball. Game of Football

Going to Blenheim

In the holidays, I went to Blenheim, this was fun because on the way there I got to buy a bunch of food, (with my mum's money). then when I got there I have my nana a hug and we went inside, I had milo then I made my bed ready for staying there for 3 days, then I had dinner, that night I had Chinese, the best Chinese I have ever had it was amazing.

After I had dinner I got chocolate-coated ice creams, I ate that super past. Then when I finished that it was kinda late and my parents wanted to go to bed so my mum let me watch captain underpants series on Netflix on my mum's phone, I would recommend watching them they are hilarious. I watched them for about 11:00 pm.

I went to bed, the next morning had corn fritters for breakfast to get me energized, I went next door to my friend Matthews house and played some Xbox then I got offered to go roller-skating with them, I thought I would be really bad but then I picked up on it really fast, roller skating was fun but I kept falling over. I raced his sister Mikayla, I won I was very surprised that I won because she comes here almost every week.

What is scratch? it's a programming software that you can make stories and games that are animated. We ald did something called spheros, The spheros have an app on the ipads and they can be programmed to say things, Move around and crash into things, they are super durable and they don't break very easily.
They can both be programmed to do things when u click something, I would rather prefer using spheres because they are real-life things and you can actually use thm they arent VR type things.

P.E Reflection

On Monday we played a game called bench ball. our warm-ups were Star Jumps, High knees and jogging back and forth. we needed to do 40 starjumps,  20 High knees and 10 running up and down. we did one drill which was walk up on granny where someone was at the wall and people were at the other wall and they ran if the granny turned around and saw anyone running they needed to go back.

Then we played benchball. The games were, Year 7 BH VS Year 7TZ In that game 7TZ won and in the game where the Year 8 BH and Year 8 TZ played Bh won, that was my team. then we played a year 7 vs year 8 game. The year 8´s one that.

The rules of the game:
At the start of the game someone throws the ball in the air and two people need to try to catch it. if they catch it they pass it to their teammate when you pass it to your teammate they need to keep passing it until someone on their team can pass it to the person on the bench. if you drop the ball when you catch it it's the other team's ball. then when all of your team is on the bench you win.

Maths:
What I felt about the maths is that it was easy but hard. Some of the equations we did were easy and some of them were hard. I didn't learn anything really but what they could do next time is make a bigger field and not even numbers.

Last time I wasn't very encouraging to my teammates but this time I will so I don't get in trouble and because it will help my team win.

TerraCycle

Hello. for the past 2 weeks we have been making a poster about Terracycle and what they do to help the environment. every Kilogram you give them you get $1.  we are helping the community by making boxes and putting pens and other stationery.

How are we going to spread the message to our community? Making a Facebook page, twitter, Instagram, youtube and anything else.
Who do you think will get involved? Maybe the City council and government agency.
How many kgs do you predict we will collect? 20 to 30.
What should we do with the money we get from TerraCycle? Give it to the SPCA and give it to a homeless shelter.
